Default Security Light On

I have a 2009 Sportster 883 XLC with 6500 miles on it. The other day I was riding and the security light came on. It has never come on before and I have not had to do ANY repairs to the motorcycle. The only thing I have done is basic maintenance. I pulled off to the side of the road and when I put on my flashers the light went off. I turned it off and then was able to fire it right back up and I disabled the flashers. I turned it off again and fired it back up. Again the security light came on, I just turned it off this time and it fired up no problems. I bought it used with 80 miles on it from a dealership in 2011 and it did not come with a key fob, only 2 keys. To my knowledge it does not have a key fob for it. I also noticed when I turned on to my street last night the right turn signal flashed VERY quickly, I checked the bulbs and they are both working correctly. I don't want to get left on the side of the road somewhere, is something wrong? If so any ideas???

Call your dealerand ask them how to reset the codes. I am not sure if your is the same as mine but mine is from the off position to the on three times and the codes will reset and if it comes back talk to dealer about how to retrive the codes than look up the problem

Same happened to my 2011 48 when I replaced the turn signal bulbs to led bulbs. It blew out my fuse also. I change the led bulbs back to regular bulbs and everthing went back to normal.

Just this past week I had a similar situation with my '09 Iron, when out of nowhere the red key light came on and stayed on...at the same time I noticed that the right front signal was blinking fast, but slowed back to normal the next time I used it. I got to my destination, shut off the bike, restarted it about 30 minutes later, and the red key came back on for about one second, then stayed off. A day later, after restarting, the light came on again...I energized the right signal and it went off and hasn't come on since.

I'm thinking that maybe this was a "glitch" in the equalizer module for my LED signals possibly due to the high heat we've been experiencing here lately? I dunno but I'm gonna' keep an eye on this...if it continues I'll contact Custom Dynamics and bounce it off them...

Your bike has a stored diagnostic code...need to go into DTC mode and see what's causing the problem: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/elect...tic-codes.html

If you're going to own/operate a bike...might want to read the "owners manual" to at least learn the idiot lights...
