Default Bigger Throttle Body

Getting some headwork done soon with S&S, need a bigger throttle body (58mm).

ISSUE: S&S told me screaming eagle makes a TB for my bike, however, my dealer doesn't know of it, and I can't seem to find one anywhere (still green and don't know where to look, lol).

I have noticed S&S makes a throttlehog, curious if that will work (will call em tomorrow to find out).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

I think I'm right that S&S make parts to adapt Harley throttle bodies, for improved performance. Where you should start looking is probably the Screamin Eagle catalogue, page 56, a compulsive good read!

Based on what's in your post and sig line, I must be missing something here. Your stock TB is capable of 100+ HP, and just doing headwork to what you have listed isn't going to get you there.

I was going to say the same thing. Even the 42mm CV carb can get close to 100 before it chokes. What on earth are you building that you need a 58mm throttle body?

More info on the build.....stock throttle body will hold 110 hp. Please give us all the goods. S&S heads and pistons and cams all together on a 1250 won't hardly get you to 100hp without reworking porting the heads.

Larger throttle body will be similar to an elephant fart, volumn, but not much velocity. Proper velocity of that intake air is what makes the engine work.

Awaiting feedback on current dyno testing of larger throttle bodies/intakes right now. I'll post the results when I get them.

This is actually what I was wondering. I did find the SE catalog actually and from what i read there, the 58mm TB seemed like it might be an unnecessary mod. That makes me worry about the other things the S&S guy told me.

S&S SUGGEST:

• 10.5:1 Compression Port & Polish Headwork
• .500 lift Cams (for low end power)
• 58mm ThrottleBody
• AirStream Stealth A/C Kit

My Goals:

I'd like to start to figure what i want to do for stage 2 tune. But i like to tune evenly and with purpose. My issue with my current stockish bike is that at 35mph i am either at the top of 2nd gear and in a higher RPM then comfortable, or i shift to 3rd and sort of luggin it. So i'd like some low end mods to help with that.

My other issue is keeping up with the pack. Let me state that i'm not having issues as far as power goes, but damn if i'm not twisting that throttle so far that prolonged rides it really wears into the wrist, so I'd like more power at the higher end so i don't have to keep the throttle twisted as far to hold that 80mph ride for a bit of time.

Bassically S&S suggest the above mods would give me a good low end to help with that city cruising issue i got, and that with the other work listed that the overall power itself would help me with the highway thing.

So, to anyone else here that understands what i'm looking for, i'd love to hear yall's 2 cents. :-)

I want a solid stage 2, I want to fix those two riding issues i spoke of, and i don't want to do anything frivelous or pointless. I want to keep my finances spot of to achieve exactly what i want, without careless spending. as best as possible.

Thanks guys!

It's stuff like this that when i read, i'm glad to be a part of these forums. otherwise i'd have a garage full of wasted money and parts i wouldn't even need, because i would have played with every part out there til i had a good combination i liked, lol.

if i was rich that would mean i would of had one of everything that i didn't use, in my garage, lol.

I suggest you do yourself a BIG favor and give Dan at Hammer Performance a call. Hammer is the "go to place" for Sportster performance work. Tell Dan what you're looking for and what you've got to spend, and he will set up up.

I can't say enough good things Hammer's work and customer service.
