Default Exhaust Flange Question

Hey guys,

I just got done installing some V&H pipes on my Iron 883. i tightened everything down and when i went to the left side of the bike to connect the O2 sensors i noticed that there was about 1/8 inch (completer guess, it's between an 1/8 and a 1/4) of screw left for the Flange to fit flush against the heads. The problem is that i can not tighten them anymore without the fear of stripping something. does the flange have to be flush or can there be a bit of screw left behind it. I tried my best of tightening everything together and not fully tightening one at a time.

Thanks for any help you can give.

No, the flange does not need to be flush. Get the correct torque and you're done, provided it doesn't leak.

Thanks for the help. Just found a thread on here on how to check for exhaust leaks so that will be the next thing on my list as soon as I get home from work.

+1 for what cHarley said.

Mine did not sit perfectly flush, I just put the torque wrench on them and called it a day.

Don't tighten one nut then move to the other. If you do a little on each until they're torqued it will at least "look" even.
