I have apes on both my XL1200C and my FXST, as well as on previous bikes I've owned. They're the first mod I make on a bike. I dislike leaning forward when I'm cruising around...it's uncomfortable for me in that position, and even more so with forward controls.
I have 10" mini's on 4" risers on my Sportster...about shoulder high and comfortable. It had drag bars on it when I bought it (and forward controls)...by the time I got home from buying it, about a 25 mile ride, my back was already talkin' to me about how soon I could take the damn things off and put apes on.
Here's a pic of mine...taken about two weeks after purchase, I hadn't even taken the reflective strips off the forks yet.

So would most of you agree that they're more comfy then the stock setup?
Well thinking about going to these at some point. Think that they would be more comfortable due to not leaning forward. How tall did you guys go? I just want something that I can pull closer to me so my back doesn't take a beating.
About how much did it cost you guys as well. Post pictures if you can.
Bought this bike as you see it here so, not exactly sure of where the bars came from but, the apes measure about 10" (not including the riser). This is the most comfortable riding position for me <50 miles. Over 50, my *** bone starts to ache. I think this rolls me back a little too far. I had an '06 sporty a few years ago with stock bars and the same Mustang 2pc seat with backrest. Took a 200 mile trip twice in 2 days and never had to readjust. I think a little roll forward would be best for me. Thinking about going back to stock...
