I have a guy wanting to trade me fuel tanks on my sportster, I have the 3.3 gallon tank and wanting to trade to the 4.5 gallon tank, the only issue im worried about is my seat. I just recently purchased a badlander 2up seat and I know the seat part numbers are different whether you have the 3.3 gallon of the 4.5. will my seat still fit on my bike with the 4.5 gallon tank installed or am I going to have to purchase a new seat yet again to make this deal work? thank you in advance for any input.
Something I will never miss is the pre internet days, because I tend to still do things pre internet ways.
Get on your time machine (motorcycle) and take a ride back in time over to your buddies house. It might take a long time to get an answer in interweblands on a forum. And what if the answer you get is wrong and the two do work together, but you got the answer on the always right net And if it dont fit what if a little tweek makes it fit.
Thanks rickss69. Dusty bones if the person that I was trading tanks with wasn't halfway across the country I would've done that but thanks for the sarcastic answer

Forget the internet exsists, go for a ride.
This is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever read.
Id still go on that ride. Wasnt sarcastic at all. Like I said thats how things get/got done.
You could hit up a salvage yard and find a tank cheap anyway for about what shipping alone would cost.
Too many people want it now and get it now. In the 80s that would have been a reason for a ride, even if it took 6 months time to do, plan it, with no tom tom or map quest at that.
FWIW, I waited a year and drove 2374 miles to get a gun part one time. Still got that gun with that part.
There are more sportsters than any other bike in my circle of riders I know. It would also be too easy to try and slap your seat on a bike with a 4.5 tank. You wont know for sure till you try.
Just sayin the internet is the last place riders I know would look for that answer, hell, if you dont know anyone with a 4.5 sporty then I bet the local dealer has some riders parked out there, or other biker hang out. I doubt any biker would object to a hey lets see if this works question.
Unless you have seat for the 4.5 gallon tank it will not work as a direct fit. If you have a lot of room between your seat and your 3.3 gallon tank you may have the seat for the 4.5 Gallon tank. If your seat buts up tight to your tank it is the seat for the 3.3 gallon tank. It more than likely will not fit with out some modification. It may be as simple as making the tab that locks under the tank mounting bracket longer, and them jamming the center post into place. The plastic seat pan is pretty flexible, they also crack frequently, so there are several issues. It will not be a direct fit.
I take it you learned how to ride on the internet.
Dude, what are you talking about? I'm not gonna get in an argument and ***** up someones thread any more than we already have. If you have something useful to add to the topic, please do. If not, or you want to discuss whatever it is your trying to say, please start a new thread or PM me. If you're that upset about people posting on here and not being out riding their bikes, then feel free to take your own advice and stop posting.
I was afraid of that. I may just have to try and sell the seat I got and buy the correct one. I tried to put my seat on my father in laws 06 last night but it is a lot different than my 07 so it got me nowhere
