Default Starting issue!!!!

So sunday afternoon I went for a short ride to the store and back. When I got up this morning to go to work the bike was dead. I left the bike key in the on position. I hooked up the jumper cables to the battery and my car after work and all it would do is click really fast. I got it to fire up by pushing it down the hill and popping it in second gear. So after getting it to fire up I let it sit and idle for almost 20 mins. while I showered and got ready. Shut the bike off to see if it will start under its own power and all it does is click. Jump start it down the hill again and ride it for about 5 mins and then I pull it in the garage and it throws up a battery light and the check engine light. What do I do?

**Sorry the bike is an 08 Nightster**

Assuming your battery terminals are tight..I would get it load tested and make sure it's not toast.

Buy a battery. There is no way it is good after sitting that long in the on position.

Protect your investment. Buy a $30 battery tender and plug your bike in when you are not riding it.

New battery for sure, the tender is a good habit to get into.

How old is the battery? I once did the same thing and bought a new battery because I was about to go on a road trip and needed one right away. I WAS CONVINCED THAT THE BATTERY WAS TOAST because of the fact that i totally drained it dead. I left the bad battery at the dealer and they charged and tested it. When I got back from the trip they told me the battery was GOOD. Get your battery charged and tested before you go buy another battery or you may end up with 2 batteries like I did.

I just got back form the parts store and he said it was toast but I haven't let it charge for more then like and hour so I'll put it on the charger tonight and see if it comes back to life by the time I get off work tomorrow night. Fingers crossed. The battery doesn't have the dots pulled out of it to tell you how old it is so I'm guessing it's the factory battery.

Do yourself a favor and get a tender for your scoot. Saves a lot of hassle and headaches.

Just dropped the battery off at the parts store for a deep cycle charge. They said it should be done within 24 hours. Fingers crossed that it come back to life and then a trickle charger is the next purchase.
