Honestly- it handles like a charm! Rake kit from Seeger is awesome. It handles so well and the ride is so nice. The apes are very comfortable for me (I'm 6'5") and make the bike feel bigger when I'm on it. I could not be happier.
I have always loved the Sporty- its cool riding the longest running production motorcycle ever. They have such a great history and story to be told- from the Hells Angels to Evel Knievel these bikes have been around for a long time and make up the history of the Harley Davidson line.
I have spent enough on this bike to have bought just about any other more expensive HD out there and I wouldnt trade it, hands down.
I get tired of those people out there who down play the Sportster- its a great bike and you can custom the hell out of one to your liking.
Sorry for the rant but I am in love with this bike and the Sporty line.
For anyone who was wondering, the raked front end was a kit from Seeger Cycle: http://www.seegercycle.com/
I had a local custom shop, Vicious Cycles in Lemoyne, PA put the kit on. Install cost was about $400. I'm pretty good witht he wrench but I didnt want to take a chance with the frontend seeing that its pretty essential to a safe ride so I let a pro put it on. Basically the kit changes the neck of the bike by pushing the bottom of the steering tube out with an adapter and there are no frame mods involved- you can always go back to stock if you prefer. The kit also changes the forks to a wide glide set up which it nice and makes the bike look more substancial.
Check out their web site- no sense in me repeating what they can say better. I can verify though that the ride is smooth and in my opinion a much better ride.
