Swapped out the Short Shots for the black ceramic Patriot Defender yesterday. VERY happy with the upgrade. Sounds better (deeper), and is actually lower volume (to my ear - AND I had the quiet baffles in the SS's) even with the butterfly in the "full open" position. Pulls better through all gears. Needs some auto tune runs to dial it in and eliminate decel pop.

Looks really good!
Have you thought about putting a coat of high heat clear on the "spacers" so they stay clean/do not get stained? I did think about putting a satin clear on the spacers, but I had cleaned the covers before, and had satin clear on them (VHT engine clear in satin finish) and it didn't look so good after a year or so. Any other suggestions for a good, durable engine clear? |

Good News – Bad News Type Of Day…
Friday 11/18/16 in PA temps in the low 30’s but 70 deg in the afternoon. Ride to work and no issues.
Ride home after work and WOW it’s beautiful in PA for this time of the year. And it’s to get super cold and flurry during the weekend…so the ride was great! Yea it did get dam cold and flurry this weekend...so good choice to get that ride in! On my way home I take my normal route and find some construction going on to an old building that was not going on in the AM. Tearing it down…total demo-job. Fence up and heavy equipment doing their thing. I ride along and don’t take too much heed at it. Get home safely and unload the saddle bags and began to ungear myself. About 10 mins in the house I go back out to put bike in my HD SHED and I hear a hissing sound as I approach the bike. YUP picked up a piece of metal in the rear tire about ¼ the width of a postage stamp by about 1/2" long. Very thin but sharp has hell and it’s sticking out a bit at 9’oclock looking at the profile of the bike - out past the rear taillight. I get my tire plug kit, not even sure what made me buy it a few months back, and some piers and have the wife come out to put her finger on the tire to keep the air in once I pull out the metal. I manage to pull it out and fight in the plug. Add air and it’s holding over the past few days in the shed at 40 psi. Pissed off a lot! Both tires are new this season and have only 3020 miles on them. Hoping I can have my indy put a tube in it next season. Lucky for me I parked where I did once home and the FOD was easily seen. Can’t do much about it now but at least it won’t be on the rim sitting in the shed for the off season. I planned to ride a little IF the weather had a warmer day during the next few months - figured I could take #lilblue out for a rip. I’ll ride #bigblack if any reasonable days appear at this point as I don't want to ride on a tire plugged alone. Anyone have any luck with tubing a “tubeless” tire? Piece of metal was not big…I’ll post a pic, I kept it…luckily for me the construction site was only about 15 mins – 8 miles from my house in a rural route with nothing above 40 mph. About 90% sure the FOD happened at the building demo site. Don’t remember seeing anything on the road anywhere else but at this place on my route there was definitely some debris/light gravel etc from the trucks in and out of the work site. I’d really like to save the tire if possible. No chunk or large tear in the thread at all. And it was not centered but nowhere near the edge or sidewall. Guess we’ll see next season… |
Still futzing around with the wiring - some is now under the frame.
I really dont want to cut holes in the frame so I'll have to come up with something 'unique' to hide it where it exits from the ECM area(now in the battery box) up to the 'spine'... T. (the wiring sux) |

Took it out to bed the brake pads....
pretty sure i just found the limit of sane braking on a stockish-sportster. ridiculous stopping power... now in 100% fear of using only the front brakes, lock-ups and such. i went too far. i want to up the springs now but, that might just get me into trouble. the dive is now like it was when it was stock.... and the pads aren't even fully "awake" yet. ...snip.... forks again... (and they're around $180 or so) hth, T. |
XLCR swap
Greeting, first question on the forum.
I own a 1977 XLCR, I want to swap the crappy AMF motor for an Evolution engine, preferably carbureted. Looking for shops with conversion ideas for engine and transmission. Best Wishes to all.:icon_razz: |
