I have a 94 sportster 883 and over the winter I decided to clean out the carb but I've run into a problem. The bike idols fine and runs great choked but won't accelerate and when I try it shoots out black smoke and dies. My original thought was that the float was set to high but I've adjusted 3 times now and its currently a few mm lower then it should be and still nothing. I've checked the needle and its in place. my last thought is that the jets are the wrong size but i didn't change them, I only cleaned them. Any ideas would be helpful.
Is your needle jet installed? Is it installed correctly?
If you took out your mainjet and emulsion tube, it might have fallen out and you missed seeing it, then your needle is running way too rich when it lifts. Your slide works okay? And the needle is properly installed?
