Its gonna be a costly project, check out eBay for deals on parts needed, shop around, google is your best friend. It can be done cheaply by shopping right and even considering buying used parts to get the job done... Good luck, post pics
YES please let us know how it goes & post info & pics! I want to some day put a springer front end on my 2013 XL 1200 V Sportster 72 Hard Candy Metal Flake Red.
Then again I might just build a scratch built rigid frame w/springer front end & 1200 cc bike from a wrecked Sportster & keep the 72 as is

Firstly you'll need an offset springer on a rubber mount sporty which cancels out most of the cheaper springers.
Depending on your budget, I'd talk to Paughco they make a springer designed specifically for the 2004> Sportster, it's a quality product and well worth the extra inverstment!
