Default Re-jet????

I was wondering waht size jets to use.I put Vance&Hines straightshots,K&N filter, screamin eagle plugs, wires, and coil. She's a 03 883r w/stock carb.I rode her without re-jetting and it runs fine to me.But I was told to rejet anyway.Just wonderin what size to go with.

Thanks
Tommy

Tommy - The magic number for 883's seems to be a 45 slow and 180 fast. I have an 883c with V&H Shortshots installed. I also have the 45/180 jets and a SE A/C sitting in a box waiting for a nice day to be installed.

In all honesty, if its running fine to you, then don't make any changes with the jets. It's when the carb shows the need for more fuel that you make a change. If it's not coughing and wheezing, spitting and sputtering and, you are getting performance, then leave well enough alone.

Try Sorgys on Ebay. Complete kit for$15 and includes SS hex bolts for the carb bowl. Great instructions. May be $3 more than buying seperate parts local but you waste no time and they deliver yo our door in a few days.

Too many people 'assume' they need to rejet after making various modifications, even though their bike is running great.

If you feel there is a problem (running too lean or too rich) have someone hook up a gauge and check out the air/fuel ratio throughout the operating range. Only take a couple of minutes, and it's much more accurate than the 'seat of the pants dyno'..

Each bike is slightly different, and what works to optimize one bike might not be the best for another. Too many factors determine what's best for your bike, the elevation of where you live, the fuel blend of gas in your location, and the engine in YOUR specific bike..

If your bike is running fine why mess with it?

I have vance and hines slip ons on mine but I just bought the screamin eagle air filter I was told that I now have to rejet is that true or not. Also I was told by my local shop that all I have to change is the slow jet to a 45 and not the mane because I don't have open drag pipes does this sound true.

You know, it's easy enough to screw in a #45 slow (I needed a #48). You can even do it without removing the carb. It could be you don't know what you're missing. Then again, it could be perfect now so if the bigger jet doesn't make it better or even makes it worse, pop back in the original: at least you'll know for sure.
