Picked up my first Harley yesterday. Got the 2014 1200 custom and am loving it.
Starting to notice an odd notice an odd uneven rattle when slowing down or holding in clutch when in 1st gear. If I am in any other gear the sound isn't present. It sounds like a small pebble in a soda can vibrating.
I only have sixty miles on it and a call to the dealer suggested its noises from the break in and call back if its still happening after 150 miles.
I assume you are sitting still holding in clutch when in 1st gear. Get someone to do it and walk around and listen. Get you a good both ear stethoscope and probe it all over. Now would be a good time to hear what all the spinning internals sound like. My bet is it's nothing more then the start of the exhaust stroke when the valve just starts to open. It sounds like that since there is some rushing out gas expanding into the dual crossover exhaust baffles. (each cylinder use both exhaust pipes on each fire and the cylinders fire one at a time apx two strokes apart since they reach the top a few degrees difference. That replaces the slow potato potato sound of old with th FI 1000 rpm idle rasp. However ask the experts but you personally need to become the expert in charge. There are some real sharp Sporty experts on here.
