Is that pan comfortable to ride on? I'm a little confused why DK sells a bare pan, and a seat kit, but doesn't sell finished seats. I'd buy a finished seat in a second, just not sure how I feel about riding on a piece of sheet metal.

I would never ride on bare metal either. But you might be surprised how many guys asked us for them. I know I was.
The reason we sell the leather seat kit separately is so they can be customized...either with tooling and dye, or just with dye.
Since we ship everything the same day, or the next business day, it would be near impossible for us to keep every possible variation in stock already finished.
Having the seat kit separate means a little bit of extra work, but the payoff is every seat is a one of a kind...whether by tooling or dye variations.
Here are a few different seats I made for my bike...and no other one will ever be just like them.
Installed-
And another...I did not like the color, so I put another layer of dye on it...but have not taken a pic yet.

I got just the pan to see if I could come up with a home made upholstery for it..still in the planning phase....as far as comfort...it's surprisingly fine when my feet are up on the forward controls; you don't really feel like your siting on sheet metal since the springs are doing its job, but at stops the edges dig into my thigh and I'm 5' 5"...quick fix was to stop n leave only one foot planted as I wait for the light...I personally like the bare look but I'm gonna have to do something to make it a bit more comfortable at stops...
Each leather seat cover kit comes with clear step-by-step instructions. The first seat pictured is the only one we're selling a kit for right now, but within 2 weeks the cushioned seat kit pictured in the 2-4 pictures will be available, and will come with everything needed to put it together, including step-by-step instructions.
(if you email us asking, we will email you back a pdf of the instructions)
The following link is not really an instructional...but you can see starting with post #162 how easy the basic leather seat cover kit is. Layer of foam, layer of felt, drill the holes and screw it together with the chicago rivets.
Or you can go for Total Comfort and whatever look you want, by just taking the metal pan into an upholstery shop.
This is a pic of a DK Solo Seat System where they did not purchase the leather seat cover kit. Instead they did their own Custom cover. This is something most any upholstery shop can do with our Seat System.
Hey Kevin, I'm new to the board and don't want to thread jack this thread, but I have a few more questions on the seat . Can you PM or email me from my profile? I can't see a way to PM you like on other boards...
1HDRio, do you plan on covering your seat rocking it as is? The bare look is actually growing on me a little, though I'd probably use some upholstery spray glue and just glue down a flat piece of leather.
