I bought a single fire DYNA 2000 programmable ignition. It smoothed out the idle and works great. Think I got it on e-bay for $250.00 I think I may have a SE dual fire ignition hanging around but not sure if it works on an97 or not I will try and find the part # and post it. Mark...
Factory 1200 ignition module rev limits at 5,200 rpm. More power can be had above that even with smaller 883 valves. The non-adjustable SE module is the low-cost solution for raising rev limit, but that is all it does. Some aftermarket modules offer selectable advance curves and rev limits. Single fire ignition systems offer smoother idle and low-rpm performance but no significant hp gain.
However, they alsonote a 5hp increase. This 5 hp mustcome fromthe upper RPMs? Or it's an inconsistent statement.
Thinking of installing one on my 2005 1200R. I have the SE air cleaner, slip-ons and the carb has been re-jetted.
Anybody have the Ignition Module installed? Worth the $$ or is there not a noticeable difference other than a higher redline?
I don't want to move the power band to the higher RPMs either.
Thanks.
I am by no means a expert but based on everything I've read as of now I have this opinion.
If your bike is properly tuned, ie A/F mix correct and your plugs and ignition system are up to snuff, the ignition module doesn't do much more than extend the rev limiter range. If that's true, I'm not interested in seeing how hard I can push the motor before blowing it up. If my understanding is wrong I welcome being corrected.
Ok here is the part # 32633-96 QSE 6800 rpm . Mines was a 97 dual fire so check to make sure with the stealer to see if it will work. * 8 pin 7 wire connector. I would take $100.00 for it and pay shipping
Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'll stick with the Stage 1 & Screamin Eagle II's that I have - I've got a pretty smooth idle as is & I dont want to push the motor harder.
I think the only think I am interested in myself is bumping the rev limit to 6000rpm, which is still very safe for the bike. I have read with some of these ignition units you can the fire rate per stroke as well as the curve of fires over an rpm range. Not sure how beneficial this would really be in the end. Maybe..or maybe it just smoke. Seems it would be hard on the plugs. And once your gas/air is ignited, it's ignited. I guess I would like to hear from the tried and true crowd on this before I go dumping $300 on a hi end ignition.
I would think it would be more usable to the 883->1200 conversion crowd giving you a greater spark for the bigger cylinders.
