Default dk coil relocation + risers vs new bars

Howdy,
Couple of questions:
Anyone done the do custom ignition relocation that has an FOB? Worried about it melting being that close to the engine with the relocation.

2nd (total newb questions). Are there any disadvantage s to getting risers vs. New bars? I'd rather drop $80 on risers for a short term fix vs $300+ for a set of rs King Apes.

I just ordered and installed the DK coil relocation kit on my 03 Train. I am not at all worried about the melting of the wires or plugs. I will say if you decide to order the kit, check to make sure the hardware fits properly with each other (nuts and bolts go together) before starting the install

I ordered that kit and a tank lift kit. Both kits required me to run to my local hardware store to get re-placement hardware because the supplied hardware didn't fit with each other. Not even on my bike it was the hardware that they sent. You would think it is checked before it goes out.
Also i got the Screamin Eagle plugs which are too short. The stress on the plugs and coil is far to high because they are stretched out so bad. They need to be 2 inches longer for a perfect fit.

I would also like to ad that I just got done dealing with DK about my issues and they have very quickly resolved them. Kevin sent me an e-mail explaining what had happened and what they did to prevent it in the future. In my opinion that is perfect customer service. The kit looks great and is worth it. DK will be getting my return business.

For my wife's Iron we ordered the 1 1/2" risor extensions from DK and did not have change anything and that small distance made it noticeably more comfortable. I ordered New bars and to maintain factory routing and full extension had to replace all cables.

The ignition switch does not get hot, even to touch, in either location.

With it above the coil, there is no issue with the FOB getting hot or dangling and hitting anything-

If you use the Flex-Six Ignition Relocation, there is no heat issue, but if you have something dangling very far off the key, it can hit the primary or the battery cover.

last year I swapped out my bars for some 8" chumps. When I did, I extended my wiring by 10". I did 10" just to have some extra for whatever future mods I wanted. I recently purchased the DK 2.5" tank lift kit. Went right on no problems. But I didn't like how the speedo looked, too low, so I purchased a 2" riser extension from DK as well. It brought the speedo up and continues the nice lines from the tank.

Every product I've purchased from them as been spot on, and the instructions perfect.

DK/NOSNUM,

I too just ordered the coil and f-6 ignition kit for my 1200C but have yet to put them on. I also selected the black screaming eagle plug wires. What is the proper length of the wires? How short was too short? I'd like to verify this before I start the project.

Thanks!

The SE wires are as short as you can go. HD designed them to be taut...when installed they are actually so tight they pull at the boots. The distance of the wire between the boots runs between 3.75" to 4.25". (yeah, HD is not too consistent in their production specs.)

Thanks! I'll test fit before I start as well. I'm guessing this isn't suppose to cause any issues with performance?

No, technically the shorter the wire, the better the performance. But I don't think that is why they made them so short...probably just saving $. Been that way for years.

These are the same length wires as what comes stock on the Softails that have the coil on the side from the factory...and they are just as tight.
