If you RODE the XLCH home for a beat-up Jeep you got yourself a real bargain! The XLCH defines the word "Motorcycle" and was a great find to begin with, let alone to have it running well enough to ride it home. I am jealous!
Congratulations - you are now the owner/rider of a truly classic (and classy) machine!
Yep rode her home last night and boy was it cold!!! We just had a cold front move in last night it was about 50 deg but we got home just fine! Thanks for all the help and thanks in advace for the help this forum will bring.
Carb was messing up, ran battery down so had to kickstart(inner knees are black and blue!) flooded while trying to start. Kickstand broke when kicking, me and the bike went down, no damage to me or the bike. Replaced sparkplugs, fired right up. Still wouldnt idle. Went down the road to "clear her out", went to shift and got nothing but air. The toe part if the shifter had rattled off. Buddy happend to have a bolt that worked good enough to get her home. This all happend Friday. Saturday I tool a look at the carb, did a little adjusting and got it to idle great now. Kickstand is on the way. I think the points need adjustment, need a good manual!! Whats a good HD manual that has the same "look" as a Haynes manual for a car. I love those things, lots of pics and easy to read.
Went on a ride Sun (my 1st "real" ride out in the country) ran out of gas 2 blocks from home (LOL) The rest of the time she ran great!! Except i think the starter is fried. Dunno if its a $40 problem or the whole starter ($200 problem) I think the switch works as i can here the "click" of the relay. The damn thing only worked once anyway. I have always had to kick it. Someone put a wrap around oil tank on her so the right size battery isnt there. Its a small one that fits "inside" the tank.
