No she starts and runs. The engine just cut out on the highway so im thinking it has to be some sort of fuel issue. Maybe the clogged gas vent since we looked at gas level which would let air in. After it cut out it started back up but wouldnt stay running. Then we waited a few minutes and it fired up and we took off. How can i check the gas cap vent?
If carb has drain, open it up and try to catch the fuel in a bowl, if you can get a pint or so out without it shutting off , vent is probably OK. Look at Fuel to see if any water at bottom of bowl.
Drain all the fuel out and start out with fresh fuel. You say you rejetted carb, Did it run good before that? On the venting problem, I had this happen on a bike, when it started cutting out I opened up the gas cap and then it would run fine. That's how I new it was a venting problem.
It was pretty lean with carb farts when you snap the throttle open. I talked to him some more last night about it and he said there was a carb fart before it died when he really got on it. Maybe something with the vacuum pistion but would that just cause the engine to cut out? It really seems like there is a problem with the fuel delivery somewhere (obviously). The accelerator pump nozzle flows fuel when you crack the throttle so I don't think it is the pump. Would a jetting issue cause the bike to cut out like this?
The bike is at my house so maybe we will pull the carb and check the petcock screen. There is probably only 1 gallon of old fuel in there at this point along with some sea-foam, we stopped at gas station to top it off on the way back to my house.
You could also check plugs and plug wires. Friend of mine had his sporty flooded on the off season (kid rolling the throttle) and it killed his spark plugs. Id replace those. If it was a oil problem the engine would seize or blow up.. not just stop running.
