Default Progressive 11-1527

I finally got around to pulling these springs off the shelf and installing them in the 1200N. I also swapped out the factory oil for some Belray 10 weight while I was in there. The process wasn't too involved, but I was glad to have to buddy on hand to keep the bike upright and drink a few beers.

The verdict is an immediate improvement in ride over railroad tracks and going over road transitions that had bottomed out the previous set up. I've absolutely hated the 'thunk' of that terrible factory set up. Why would the MoCo put a 10" steel tube in a place where wound coils belong.

Is it perfect, no I'm sure it could be better. But after adding 1.5" to back with longer shocks, and now with the 11-1527's in the front the bike is riding like it should have when it rolled off the assembly line. If you're on the fence about this upgrade, do it, you'll be happy you did for little $$$ spent.

I did the same yesterday, big improvement I agree. How much air gap did you leave above the oil?

140mm with the forks 100% compressed, right off the Progressive instructions. I know the service manual calls for more oil, but I gave credence to the fact the new coils are thicker and more tightly wound. I used the full preload spacer as well.

Had it out again today, I'm pretty happy with the set up now.

Per progressive minimum is 5.5" iirc. My manual was factory 5.75". I went 6". Between the different sportster models some will have different spacer length and most likely oil depth. Use good judgement and you will be fine.

Thanks, I went with 150mm just to be safe. I was more curious if I was missing out on a touch more compression. I definitely don't want to chance blowing out seals though, our roads suck right now after the winter and the forks are really getting a work out.

Roads in central Pa are terrible as well. This past winter was real hard on them. The majority of local roads should be completely resurfaced. I'm looking forward to heading south in June to the Blue Ridge.
