So I just picked up a used '12 iron and have some adjustments I can already feel coming. I've read several different stories on compatibility on this bike. So someone help me out here. I'll tell you what I'm looking for in an answer. I have a honda accord that is a 2000. The compatible years are 98-02. Meaning any part in that year will line up 99% of the time. So guys, help me out here.... What's the deal with compatibility???? What's the sportster or certain year timeframe I should be looking for upgrade parts.
what parts are in question? I believe 2010 and up should be the same. but some parts may work from an 04 and up. 04, the engine went rubber mount but was carb'd thru 06. the rear fender on the 07-09 had the ecm mounted in a hole in the fender under the seat. but the mid pegs and forward controls should work. if you check out ronnies hd, you can look up part numbers and see what years parts work for or what parts have been updated
this isn't a knock on this forum, but there are literally thousands of members with new ones joining every day... why is participation so low here?
Sometimes it is not the question but the timing, it is a weekend and those that can be out riding I would believe are and others well like I said it is a weekend..
Not everyone checks the forums everyday,
Also, sometimes if members believes the question has already been answered they don't feel the need to reply..
Not to rip on you but some questions have been discussed to the point of ad nauseam and people get tired of answering them.
That being said:
04 is when engines went rubber mount and a lot of parts are compatible from 04 and up.
07 the engines were fuel injected, main changes aside from the obvious lack of carb were the gas tank and ECM stuff.
2010 they moved to ECM from the rear fender to... somewhere else, I don't know but someone else will.
2014 has brought on a bunch of changes but not too many cosmetic ones, I know the brakes and exhaust are different.
When you have specific parts in mind the search feature on this forum will be your friend.
Good point, I didn't consider everyone would be out riding. While I am not a forum noob.... I know what the search function is for and I know what google is, so with neither of those options giving me the answer I am looking for, I went with I know works...a question. now moving on from this topic onto bike stuff.
Specifically i have found several passenger seats on ebay and craigslist, that came off 04 and up date range bikes. the owners claim compatibility, but it seems off that everything on a seat that was made for 2004 would fit a 2012... what do you think?

You'll be good with any seat 04+
The mounting is the same for all rubber mounts, the only difference is 07-09 the ECM was under the seat but your 2012 is good.
