Default Flip up seat

Thinking back to the '82 Yamaha Maxim I was tinkering with before I bought my Sporty ...
It had a flip up seat with a hidden compartment beneath, perfect for storing small items like the registration, insurance card, etc.
Is this even possible on my '06?

I'd say yes
You can make a front bracket that bolts thru the rear tank mount? Or weld a mount to the frame for the front seat to put a bolt thru. I've seen the old style set mount to do this sold on sites. Then just make a tray or compartment of some type under the seat area to store paperwork. Use a quick release bolt for the rear of the seat so it doesn't move around while riding

Take a look at a current VROD or an older FXR, they both came from HD with side flip up seats. They might put you in the right direction for what u want to do.

Use the same type of connector on the rear of the seat that they use to connect the saddlebags on a touring bike.
