Don't quite understand the comments about the 'choppercraze dying off', as people have been building choppers for as long as Harley's have been around.
Lot of them around in the 60's, 70's, and up until the current day.
I'm sure that (as in the past) individuals that want something more than an assembly line bike with a few "bolt on items" will continue to design and build choppers using the latest components and technology..
Stay away from REV-Tech engines. Damn near got my best buddy killed when his 100" revtech locked up on the way back from a rally. All service had been done by the shop where he bought it, Only had 6500 miles on it. We went to pass a semi at about 75 mph, the truck was doing 60 we sped up to pass it and his engine locked up. Which in turn locked his rear tire, he kept it upright for a couple hundred yards and then it laid over on him. Lotsa road rash but he was alright. The worst part was dealing with revtech after the accident, the insurance adjuster and two independent mechanics said it was a mechanical problem but they would do nothing. His attorney finally got them to pay his insurance back and his deductible and a small amount for pain and suffering but they never did admit to the fault with their product. If it had happened just seconds later he would have been in front of the semi and probably not with us today. Other than that I like choppers and bobbers both. And if uilt right either one can be as reliable and easy to ride as any off the floor harley.
i know from talking to people that choppers are losing the coolness effect. the chopper craze was started by american chopper, now the constant tv exposure that launched it is working against it. sales are clearly declining, titan has declared bankruptcy, big dog is having layoffs etc. i think the chopper craze is on its way out. the next craze will probably be custom sportbikes
Yeah thats right, american chopper started the chopper craze, and everybody is going broke because people hate choppers.
They are going broke and laying off because their bikes are too damn expensive and not for the average motorcycle enthusiast that would appreciate one.
Choppers have been forever and they wont be going away anytime soon.
Well, maybe the expensive ones HEHE
