Default Fuel range display

I've just taken delivery of my new 2014 1200C, very happy thusfar except for the following little irritation.

When I took delivery I discovered that the low fuel light (almost ran out of fuel) and range to empty digital display were not working. So back to the dealer who repaired the indicator lamp by changing the defective sender unit but that this model of sportster does not have the range to empty digital display even though it is described in the user manual. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

I'm now riding on the tripmeter!

I have read on here before that you need to purchase a separate fuel level sensor in order to get the fuel range indicator in the speedometer to work. I think the part is around $150.00.

My light comes on around 115 miles, and usually takes 3.1 gallons.

Yup, trip meter and low fuel light is what the majority of us use...

Congratulations on your new Sportster. I purchased one of these 1200C this year as well.
I had the same questions about the fuel range indicator. The dealer contacted HD and they said this feature is not enabled. I just completed a stage one setup and the fuel manager (Power Vision) has a feature that monitors the fuel used. It is accurate and it is how I keep an eye on the fuel used as well as the mpg the bike is getting. Oh yeah, it tunes the bike pretty durn good too!

Thanks for your useful comments. Seems I'll be riding in the trip meter for now.

I have installed the Screaming Eagles slipons, what a great sound they also seem to have provided a bit more low down power.

I ride with the indicator light and trip myself, though it is not perfect the light comes on after I have spent about 2 gallons of fuel letting me know I have 1.2 gallons left and it is time to start looking for a gas station, (I changed out the peanut tank for a 3.2 tank).

When I say it is not perfect I actually mean the trip millage is not perfect because there are many elements that effect how much fuel is being burned at any given time, if you're riding hard (fast and quick takeoffs) you're going to burn more fuel than if you are riding easy (normal takeoffs and speed limit) and of course if you are on a Highway or freeway you are bond to get better millage per fuel used than if you are riding in the mountains.

The trip is only used by me to make sure I am getting around the same mileage as before, but as previously stated it really depends where I'm riding and how hard I'm riding but typically it ranges from 60 to 75 miles before the light comes on. So basically if I were out and looked at my Trip and it said 100 and the light was not on that would be a very good indication that my light is out and I better head for fuel.
