Reason: nunya
I was about to attempt this task today, but the turn signals were in my way. I'm assuming an Allen key is all that's necessary to tighten the new hardware? And that precise torque is not necessary?
Edit: I did this on the Nightster and don't remember it being onerous.

Pull the lens off and you will have just enough room with tq wrench and a extension.
Are we talking about the detachable sissy bar / luggage rack/ whatever else you want to stick on you equipment? The same equipment that can be had for $15-20 on ebay and takes 10-20 minutes to install?
You will <<<NOT>>> need to loosen and slide back the upper shock bolt on each side ( do one at a time). I assume you have torx wrenches.
see the 2007 XLCN images and sig below. the is no reason to touch the shock bolts. where luggage rack meets the bike is where the mounts are. if it was the fixed sissy bar you'd have to move some stuff. the detachable connects just like the rack in the photos
no removing of wheels either. don't trust dealers. they mean well but they say crazy stuff sometimes
I am installing the docking hardware for detachable accessories, which involves removing and reinstalling four screws. My problem is the turn signals are obstructing the rear screws.

No they are not! Remove the damn lens covers and you have room!
Anyone else really disapointed that they are just crappy plastic? Mine literally snapped when I was taking off my sissy bar, glued it back on but the black plastic is literally broken in half, why aren't these metal?
You don't even need to take off the lens cover, use both hands, one with a wrench and slid up under the fender to hold that inside bolt, the other with a socket wrench and the appropriate size and shape head, hold the the nut on the inside still and crank on the outside and tada done. Did mine in like 25 minutes once the dealer gave me the right docking hardware, originally gave me the bag mounting screws which are like 2 inches instead of 1.
The ones next to the turn signal don't have nuts; they thread into a plate instead. No wrench required on the other side, but it's tough to get even a quarter-inch extension in there.
