Maintain engine paint
It holds up a lot longer than just plain silicon. Price depends on where you buy it, if you shop at the stealership yeah it's probably wicked pricey. But shop at local Indy shops or some online resources, it's about 40% less expensive than S100...and in my experience works better.
The fact that Pig Spit lasts through quite a few "riding in the rain" and "washings"....a single 9oz can that costs me 10 bucks lasts me often two years. Even if it only lasted me 1 year....still pretty cheap.
S100 seems to barely last for 2x washings...sometimes feel I have to reapply it after 1x wash. About 9 bucks for a little 4.5oz can. I'd need 2x cans per year. 20 bucks a year. (although I do like it's applicator straw better than Pig Spits nozzle)
...and I'm not someone that washes the bike a lot, maybe once a month...and I'm a nearly full time rider for ~8 months of the year.

I bought my first and only can of "Pig Spit" about two years ago, in one of the tall cans, and I think I paid damn near $12 for it at the stealership. And the instant I pressed down on the spray nozzle I noticed a familiar smell; silicone. I proceded to use it up in it's entirety over the course of a year or so, and I gotta' admit, I was impressed with it! But when it was all finished up, just for $hits'n giggles, I tried some of the CRC [I miscommunicated the brand in my previous post, I called it "CRS", oooops. sorry] "Heavy Duty" silicone instead and low and behold, it offered the exact same protection from rain and washings. Your experiences seem to be different than mine and perhaps our criteria for judging each and/or the products used are different, but from my own 'speriences, the heavy duty silicone works the same for me as the pricy pigpoop, at easily 1/3 the cost.
'Had a real eye opener last year while visiting an indy shop, when I happened upon the exact same tall can of "Pig Spit" as the one I bought, and I almost $hit when I read the price tag on it...$14.99! $14.99, really?!
I'm not one to bitch and whine about a few lousy dollars but when putting things in perspective, paying 1/3 the cost for something that was found to offer the same protection as something else being offered for 3x more makes sense whether it's $10 or $1000, yo!
So fer me, it's silly-cone for the win!! Of course, YMMV ;O)
=8^)
Ok guys. Thanks for all the info and advise!!!! Well after going to 3 different shops looking for either pig spit or s100. I had to go to the dealer and look. Well look and behold, harley came out with their own line of engine brightner. Silicone based 11 oz can. Pretty steep at $19 though. Idk if that's alaska inflation or the usual price. I had a gift card so I got it to try. It looks really nice now. Looks better than the 48's engine I was drooling at. Haha.. Here is a pic of the before. Excuse if it's crappy but it's with my phone.
