Default New to Sportster

Recently I started having this need for a faster bike, so I found a dealer a little further from me that had a 2013 VROD but didn't have time to test ride it. So I was thinking of trying some SuperSport bikes out despite my shoulder being destroyed but looking around I saw lots of talk about the Sportster S so I decided to try one. The dealer I normally go to just got new one in blue, and test driving it gave me the acceleration/torque I was looking for.

In 3 weeks I've put about 1000 miles on it. But today I took a test drive on an Indian FTR (carbon). Much higher seating position, w/ rearset instead of front, which made for a much different riding experience. Throwing it into curves was much easier and it took much less effort BUT the torque left me unsatisfied.

So far I am really satisfied, and I haven't had any troubles yet.

Maybe a set of mid controls or even some rearsets would give you what you're looking for? You can get mids through HD but rearsets can be had from Satoracing, Thunderbike, and maybe one or two others.

I've got the mid controls and they really made the bike for me!

I had the same feeling about the FTR vs. the Sportster S. The torque, and the fact that it's available everywhere, just made the bike more appealing to me. I think if I lived in the mountains or someplace that had a bunch of curvy roads, the FTR might have been the better bike. But I'm Kansas and we just don't have much in the way of curvy roads.

I'm 6'2" and switched to mid-controls and the HD Reach handlebars and it's pretty comfortable for me now. I felt like a taco with the stock setup.

Anyway, there's a fair amount of stuff out there for this bike and new stuff is coming out too. It just takes some digging. A lot of it is out of Europe. Congrats on the bike and welcome to the forums!

If things go my way I may just buy the FTR anyways (already having had the Sportster S for about a month)
