Default Question

Does a CT smooth out those quick bumps that jolt your back,,, my wife has a bad back and loves to ride, most bumps are ok for her, but those small quick ones are hard on her back,, I have an 09 ultra classic, I went to progressive shocks and that helped a little, if the CT is a softer ride I will put one on and give it a try...

I personally havent ran a CT but judging by their characteristics of having stiffer sidewalls/ a stiffer carcass, they'll only make the sharp bumps worse.

Thanks for the answer from someone who never ran a car tire and does not have a clue.

The answer is yes (at least for non run flat tires). My wife immediately noticed that the bike had a softer / smoother ride with the car tire. She commented favorably about it after her very first ride.

Check out the first post of my car review....

This response from a non-darksider reminds me of Johnny Carson holding a sealed envelope up to his forehead and answering the question inside.

The real answer is yes a car tire (runflat or not) will greatly improve your ride quality. I'm not sure it will improve it if you run 40PSI in it, but at 28 to 32 it is a big difference.

car tires are all radials, and (barring extra-stiff tires like run-flats and low-rolling-resistance) the sidewalls have more "give" than the typical bias-ply bike tire.

Default car tire

I have run them for years and like the ride and give up little.
Going to put one on my 2016 Road glide soon. They are like a tootsie roll and last a long time.

Hadem on 2 bikes and this will make 3.

Let's just say my new scoot is coming due for a new back tire and my wife has informed me that we will be taking this bike to the darkside. She has about 50,000 miles under her belt riding 2 up with me, about 30,000 of them with a car tire. World of difference. She will love it.

Wow, that's really inciteful, especially from someone who has this extensive easy chair assessment. After running CTs on bikes since 1978, I never noticed the sharp bumps were worse. I was told they would be softer, so I believed it. Guess I've been mistaken all these years.

Default Soft ride? Hell yes!!

Been running a CAR TIRE for about 25 years, on both Harleys and Goldwings. My 1949 came off the show room floor with car tires. I've been running Michelin Primacy Alpin 195-55R-16 on all my bikes, and it ran excellent. Good grip and the 'bumps' in the road all but disappeared. I caught a nail in the side wall and changed brands. I now have a 195/55R-16 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D RunOnFlat Run Flat with 3/4s of a bottle of "Ride On", the ride couldn't get much better. The road 'bumps' disappeared altogether, and the rail road crossings, the ones that have been taken care of, smooth. And after wearing the goop that comes on the tires off, the twisties are unbelievable. The transition from a hard right to a hard left is only limited by how low your bike parts will let you. I will be replacing my running boards here shortly.

Three words.... GO FOR IT! (Check out The Tire Rack for tires.)

If you do run a car tire, I recommend with 2 up, 33psi. 1 up drop it to 30..
