The Dark SideFor those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!
Stock was 150/80/16, I run the 175/75/16's - although the Austone is suspected to be just a tad higher aspect ratio. I won't run another due to mine and a few others with speed wobble problems. Dunlop is probably next, from Universal Tire, if I ever can wear out this Aussie - 7k on it and looks almost new.
Good call on gauges - best to chalk the tire, or go by sweet spot pressure. Once found, always use the same gauge, & check the pressure differential between that and your backup gauge, so you can always get the same pressure if the primary gauge fails.
I corner hard, so performance orientation is more important to me than tire life - BUT - they fortunately DO go together, at least on bike tires. The Darkside gives mileage regardless, IMO.
Reading the goldwing darksiders forum, there are quite a few of them running some CT's that are happy if they get 4K out of the tires. Not trying to contradict you about milage. In general, I think you are right, but I was amazed that the "Falkan" (Probably spelled that wrong) had a following because the rubber was so soft (and sticky). I take it the tires are about $70 and traction is more important to them than milage.
I agree. I run a Shinko 777 on the front right now and since it's traction is par exxellance, price is about $80, I'm not really caring that it's nearing the wear bars seemingly quickly. It has one job primary function: holding the line to match the rear tire's grip. I will ONLY buy another like it because of that.
The Wingers, I mean those who can actually RIDE a bike, can be quick on a tire because those things have ungodly POWER that most of their riders don't have a clue what to do with. Yeah, you can burn a tire off pretty quick.
Consider that many of the AVERAGE wingers only get 5k on a rear MT.
