The Dark SideFor those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!
So when you switch to a radial CT on the rear what about the front? Bias and radials handle much differently. On cars they used to say it was okay to have a radial on the front and bias on the rear but it was always best to have matched front to rear. So what is the consensus for bikes?
On my 13 Limited I went with a Dunlop sp5000 195-60-16 on the rear and a Battlax Bt45 130-80-17 rear on the front running in reverse. and it rides wonderful, seems to road walk less. I'm hooked.
I don't see it as an issue. I have put over 25K on with a car radial on the rear and a non-radial, M/C tire on the front.
The handling is great.
In my younger days, I did run radial tires on the rear of a car with bias tires on the front. The first time I switched lanes quickly to pass, I scared the crap out of myself. It felt like the rear end of the car was breaking loose.
My question is : whitch is better to run a bias ply or a radial tire. Has anyone seen what damage a radial tire does when they blow out and come apart. I won't put radial tires on a camping trailer because I've seen them tear everything apart under the wheel well , just like a big wire wheel ! I wouldn't want to be sitting on my Bike if that ever happened !
