just wondering how often I should be checking for updates to this software and downloading to the bike?
If your bike is running good and your happy with it then it's not necessary to worry about it. Most updates are to add new models and more base calibrations. So it doesn't hurt to do updates to the software but not much need to change anything in the bike ECM until you make changes.
