Daytona Twin tec Ignition TC88 vs TC88EX
Hi all,
bought DTT TC88 Online as was shipped a TC88EX module instead. I understand the EX module is the EPA approve Cali legal version.
I did some work on my TC88 engine in the fall, ported heads & valve kit, SE Cam plate & tentionners, Fueling cams & Lifters, S&S 95" pistons, Mikuni 42mm carb, Arlen NEss big sucker etc..
Wanted to continue improving the bike's overall performance and was proceeding with Ignition module upgrade. Since this is an '03 flhtc with 50,000 miles I opted to get new wires and ignition coil as well.
My goal is to continue working towards 100/100, though I understand I'm likely not quite there with this set up I expect I'm getting close. Anyways, no plans to take this to the track or anything like that.
Looking to evaluate the pros & cons to exchanging the TC88 EX module for the straight TC88. It is a hassle because customs are involved since I'm in Canada. Bottom line is I did not get what I bought.
Any opinions out there on EX vs straight TC88?
Thanks

I would return it. You can download the program software to see how the maps are different between the Race and EX. The EX limits timing adjustments in some locations but extends the map / timing / rpm table to lower pressures. Might be nice if trying to get that last 1/2 mpg. One of the things it does not allow is 0 RPM timing. This can be an issue for starting. It is set to 0,
There was guy over on HTT that thought the EX was the bees knees but he could never get the bike to stop pinging.

I could not help putting it in. So far it sems to be starting much better than witht he original ignition. Working on getting an appointment with a tuner to get everything dialed in. Fuel consumption is a priority since this is an '03 with a 5 gallon tank and I know I will always want more power. At some point I need to make due. No pingning so far.
