Quick google search shows there's 60,000 home in 5.56 square miles. That's enough to keep me away. Plenty of other nice areas IMHO.
Good luck either way
the developer owns or controls EVERYTHING, be prepared to be ruled.
Highest STD rates in the country, apparently sport f*cking is a major pass time
but seriously you give up a lot of control over things in a gated community, even more so since the developer controls it soup to nuts.
Where I am we have a HOA, and I have done battle with them over the years, but the residents own the golf course, pool, fitness center, restaurant, etc etc etc.
Howdy from Tennessee, we are thinking about moving to The Villages in Florida. I am headed down there this week to meet with a realtor. I am in the exploratory mode. Have been to Florida many times but never lived there. I searched this Florida Crew before i posted.
were moving there in June, been visiting for the last 3 yrs, love it, kinda like in a bubble, 97% white, 93% republican, u can rent a house in the villages instead of a hotel, your realtor can hook u up, go anywhere on a golf cart, cool bars and restaurants, not sure about the std, think thats more of a rumor, glad to hear all the negative comments, the less the better moving there, good luck, by the way, check out brown wood square and hit the outdoor bar at city fire
Have a friend I was in the service with, he and his wife have been living there for 6 or 7 years. They go to Connecticut for the summer, both are very active and play a lot of golf, pickleball and softball. They love it there but have stated that it is the STD Capital of the world.
According to dickey there is no better place to be. I have family and friends that live there. I have been there several times, but no a place I'd live. I don't do well in heat n humidity. Good luck in your search.
I like meeting different kinds of people, and dont golf. I like to drive fast and ride a motorcycle, and do yard work, and play with my grandkids. So I have zero interest in the Villages. You have to make up your own mind.
I am more like the Michael Douglas character here, than the man in the stupid little hat. If youre a golfer who likes to hang out with White Republicans, and go slower than 25 mph I guess it might be Heaven on Earth.
I used to drive a Street Sweeper there in 1986 when it was a trailer park called Orange Blossom Gardens. Now its its own city.
The STD rumors are true by the way.
