Hey all...
take a look at this picture. What do you think? Just pull it out...or do you think some damage may have been done to the 'cords'? Nail went through the tread sideways....somehow.
Tire was put on in late May...but my butt likes to stay on the seat.

chuck the mensh
You only have two wheels, you can't afford to take a chance on one of them giving out. I would pull it out, and have it (double) plugged. Then ride with it to see if you are getting a "thumping" feel / noise. If not, you should be good to go. I know if you broke a steel belted radial, you would feel thumping (1st hand). Not sure with threaded though.
if the tire holds air, it never hit the cords, the tread is like a rubber shoe sole, it is made to take the abuse so the tire casing doesnt have to. just pull it out and ride..
Chuck, measure the depth of the tread, then pull the nail and measure to the bottom of the hole if it is less than tread did not go deep enough to damage belts on tire.
OK as usual I'm gonna go against the tide...it might not leak air...it might be good to go...but I would always be wondering.....for my piece of mind, I'd replace it...
Yeh....where the 'tip' of the nail came out, it is a little below the tread, where the 'cords' would be. Think if you rode the tire till NO tread was showing...that is where the nail comes out.
Looks like a ride to Destination Daytona. (Like I need a new t-shirt!...got glasses last week! LOL)
I was on pager/on-call duty last week and got my extra pay....easy come, easy go.
I agree with sick puppy, the tire may be good and all...but I would have it in the back of my mind, and would not make for 'happy' riding.
I may keep the old tire for doing burnouts this biketoberfest...! LOL

had simalar thing happen to me,but went through the side,5/16 dia. bolt.pulled it out no leak.went to brothers shop, new tire.some guy that worked there took the tire from trash tire pile, you could not see the damage ,brother warned him, don't leak he says.so he puts it on his bike, less than a week later where the hole was (I asssume expanded with heating up tire) grew larger and larger untill it completely came un raveled, laid his bike down ,mostly road rash to both bike and rider.I sure am glad I got a new tire and did not have tire failure with me and wife.just my .02.
