Talk about a blast from the past. This thread is old as the hills. The original link on the first post is still good though. Otherwise you could try sending Renagade a Private Message.

Where'd you move to?

And to answer another question of yours, "why wear a helmet at all?".....well some of us, maybe only me at times, realize that the Gov't told me I should wear a helmet or get $10,000
insurance. I like the feel of a light helmet, and my non DOT seems to satisfy most police.
On the topic of insurance...it is my belief that automobile drivers should carry an extra $10,000 insurance unless they have a motorcycle endorcement (just in case they happen to meet me by accident).
And just think...if driving your car and wearing a helmet...could save JUST ONE LIFE....wouldn't you insist your family all wear helmets?
Me? I wear a VOSS helmet....and I found a DOT sticker at Bike Week to put on it.

Chuck (I may have worn out my welcome) Themensh

Thanks for the post Dave. It was great information and then it became entertaining.

I guess some of these people wouldn't plug a lamp in unless they found the UL tag first.

I endeavor to have the Gov't control as little as possible in my life.

I was at the local bike bar one day. A parking lot vendor was selling novelty helmets. It was as ligt as a feather and about as protective as a plastic replica fireman's helmet handed out to kids with Happy Meals. The woman is trying to sell it to me and when I pointed out it had zero safety factors she said people like the way the look that's why the wear them. I told her I like the way a tie looks but certainly wouldn't wear one riding my bike... And they're both equally protective.

Default Head Trip Helmet

I have been looking for a carbon fiber half helmet. I ended up in Orlando while my wife was attending a conference and I went by Head Trip to check them out. They were very nice. They obviously make the helmets right there and they make them to order. I tried a few on and ended up ordering one. I got it about 2 weeks later. The helmets have some type of high tech padding rather than Styrofoam and they have sizing pads that you can attach where you need them for final fitting. It was a little tight front to rear so I considered getting the next size larger and adding different sizing pads to get it to fit. I called Head Trip to ask about getting a different size and happen to talk to the owner. He told me to send the helmet back and he would reshape the helmet to fit my head. This will be a much better solution than getting a larger helmet and adding sizing pads. How is that for customer service?
I only wore the helmet over the weekend before I sent it back, even being a little tight, it is, without a doubt, the best helmet I have ever had on my head. My old helmet feels like crap!

Just to make sure you know, it IS NOT A DOT certified helmet. If the information I was able to find is correct the helmet just missed passing the penetration test but passed the impact test (that's what I was worried about). Make your own decision.

Coming late to the party and just found out about the recall on the helmets. I've had mine for about four years and loved it. Sadly, being military I'm required to have a DOT helmet so I'm going to have to start the search for a good one all over again. If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to sell my gently used ACC Ext-003 size M. Minimal wear and tear. Let me know if anyone is interested. I'll post something in the classifieds as well.

SOLD!!!
