I heard that it takes $250-300M from inception, through R&D to market to put a new drug out there. You also have to account for long term side effects leading to lawsuits. So, I agree...I can see why some of them have high price tags, but the price discrepancy is puzzling. I loathe gouging on meds, especially for something like cancer when a person is usually broke like Gilligans ship already from all the other treatments. It is a hard row to hoe, ain't it? Don't want the government any more in control of our healthcare than they already are but can't let people hold patients lives ransom with high prices.
Anyhow, any chance we can get cheap N. Korea meds now? I think they owe us one
The power of the big pharmaceutical lobbies in action fellers.
FWIW I totally agree it's ridiculous and these folks need to be reined in but that's probably not gonna happen until the political process is changed in this country.
Al ... Give up everything and go on welfare. Then you'd get it for free. Our government in action. :>(
Free phone and high speed internet too!!!
After some research on this medication, I found the patent that protects it is not on the medication but on the delivery device. The generic has a different delivery but the capsules work fine both in the Spriva system and the generic one. BTW, the delivery system looks like a $.25 product.

Reminds me of that "little *****" who bough the drug company and immediately raised the price of one of his drugs by thousands of dollars. We're all in this races together and compassion and responsibility are part of the business of life.
