Try this:
Wait till its 40degrees out and put on your denim jeans and take off 60 MPH for 30 minutes and then come back and put on good lined chaps and take off 60MPH for 30 minutes and tell me if they work or not. Cased closed! Hell yes they work and I don't give a damn what others think about the poser thing or whatever. I like to ride my bike when it's 40 degrees and w/o chaps, jacket, gloves I couldn't do it so call me what you want.

They make a huge difference when riding in the cold. And nothing better than leather for protecting you from road rash.
Leather pants would offer more protection but as someone said they are much hotter, harder to size properly and don't go on and off like chaps.
Sometimes get weird looks when I wear my chaps into a store. Wouldn't be as bad if I was carrying a helmet so people would know I wasn't doing tryouts for the Village people
Why are the same questions asked on this forum???? Let's use our heads here shall we... an extra layer of anything is going to help with the cold. Leather does that nicely. Chaps are good for that. Fashion statement??? WHATEVER!! I wear them when it is cold. they protect from burning your jeans on the exhaust, they prtect you if'n you fall like your leather jacket. Personally I could give a rats azz if you think they are gay or you think I'm a poser or if you think that they are part of the "uniform" To me they are a "tool" nothing more nothing less. I wear them only when it is cold out. That's just me personally. Can we drop the subject now??
