As I have posted in another thresd I purchased a 2011 Road King Classic in Vivid Black. When it was delivered I noticed a portion of the paint on the top of the front fender has a wavy look to it. You can actually feel it when you rub your fingers over it. I took it to the dealer and was told The Motor Company has a "standard" that an imperfection has to meet as to whether is is worth them taking action. I have seen repeatedly on their website that they pride themselves on having superior paint quality. I was wondering if anyone else has experience dealing with this standard. By the way, the jury is stil out as to whether my flaws are bad enough. The second question is why do the auxiliary lights go off when the headlight is on bright? I am thinking I have seen an aftermarket "fix" for this where the aux. lights stay on with the headlight on bright.
Congrats on the new ride. I have no experience with the paint problem so won't comment. The auxillary lights are set to turn off on high beam because it is illegal in some states to have accessory lights running with high beams on. Check with local and state laws before modifying.
Apparently the paint flaw met your approval, or you would not have accepted delivery.
Your chances of getting it fixed would have been better if you refused it.
Hope the dealer will go to bat for you, they might just have someone sand it out.
I know Harley thinks their paint quality is extraordinary and they have convinced many of their customers. IMO it is good, but not really any better than the paint on many other products.
That paint job should have never left the factory QC dept. blew it on yours , their pushing bikes out he door just make sales not customers happy . If it's not a problem with you don't worry about it but come resale time it will be an issue. Good luck bud .
I'm kind of wondering why you posted this in the B/S forum. I've never seen bad paint on a Harley before. Where are you located. If you're close by, I'd kind of like to see what you're talking about. Or is your post really B/S?

I certainly have. I was down at the dealership and was looking at the new bikes last week. The paint quality has really gone down hill. I was looking at a brand new Fatboy, and looking at the front fender, you'd think it was painted with a roller. The orange peel was so bad, I would have been embarassed if it was me that did that paint job, and I'm not even a painter, although I have painted a few cars that looked a lot better that. The tanks and fairings don't seem to be too bad, but the fenders on a lot of them really look bad under the flourecent lights. The orange peel finish just stands right out.

HD painting is done on a robot production line , only thing a person has to do with it color choice and first run setup , this is also why it takes 3 months to get replacement sheetmetal after a wreck everything is done in batch runs . Quality control dept. ( QC ) should be monitoring what comes off the line for the very problems people are seeing on the bikes . Sounds like cut backs have bitten a little too deep at the factory .
