I prefer the looks of my Super Glide Custom without the windshield but enjoy the comfort of the windshield when riding.
For me riding is supposed to be fun, getting hit by bugs isnt fun.
Dude, it's the wind noise that bothers me. You get plenty of air in your face with a windshield, your face is above it. You will eventualy either loose your hearing or get tinitus by the time you are over 50 from that noise without a screen.
I have tinitus already.......... not just from bikes but guns and rock concerts too!!!! anyway they have these things called "earplugs" to help with the windnoise - I wear em all the time now - sort of closing the barn door after the horses get out I know but I do highly recommend them; even if you ride with a full face and a windshield.
You didn't specify but I'm assuming you mean on my motorcycle? the answer is no way. I do have one in my car though......
Honestly I am always completely baffled by posts about windshields - I simply don't understand the appeal. I've ridden hundreds of miles a day for days at a time and never once have I wished I had a windshield - it simply never occurs to me....... feeling exposed with the wind in my face sounds a bit cliche but for me that's what it's about. When I hear comments like there's too much wind on my motorcyle without a windshield it reminds me of going into a restaurant and ordering a steak dinner but asking them to hold the meat.......
Bet you're a youngster. When I finally broke down and put a shield on for a Sturgis trip in 2000, my daily mileage went up from about 300 - 400 a day to up to 650. Stops that were regular overnighters disappeared. I used to have to hit Bishop, Ca on my way back from Vegas or San Diego but now I have to call my ol' lady and tell her to lose her boyfriend a day early cause I ain't stoppin!
I haven't found the right shield yet apparently, because every windshield I've tried, on just about every bike I've tried it on (Deuce, RK Custom, Deluxe), has beaten me up worse than no shield. Sure, less wind pressure on the chest, but hits me right in the helmet. The recommendation to have the shield just below your line of sight ends up with the wind pounding my helmet. I figure it needs to be lower (which negates some of the value) or higher (in which I'll be looking through it, rather than over) to be comfortable to use. Then I read some folks say that you need lowers for them to work well... No thanks, I'll pass and just stay off the highway for long treks...
I like having the windshield. It keeps bugs, rain and rocks away along with sand, hay and other crap that can blow into your eyes. It's just my choice, your thoughts may be different. Since I tend to ride some long distances I also find I don't get as tired with the windshield. But it's whatever floats your boat. It's all good.
