Don't let your bad experience with service drive you away from a bike you love. It's not the bikes fault and there are other options for service. Hopefully you aren't just unhappy with the bike and using the bad service as an excuse to get rid of it. If you don't like it, sell it and get another metric. If you love it, keep it and work around the service issues. You wouldn't get rid of your dog just because the only pet store in town quit carrying fido's favorite brand of food would you?
Strange.. I used to have a vulcan 1500, I dressed it out, the accessories were outrageously priced and it did take a long time to get stuff and there was only so much available from Kaw. or aftermarket for that matter. When I got my Harley I was amazed at the amount of stuff that was available, if you think of it it's been made for a Harley. I use genuine Harley or after market, Jireh cycles has a lot of stuff at a great bargain, they do sometimes B/O because of the amount of sales they do, but every Harley dealer I've been to has had for the most part everything I've ever needed in stock and I really dressed my Harley up, I've never seen them not have a manual available, so it may just be the dealer you're dealing with. As said don't blame the bike, and with the newfound info you have available here at HDF I think you'll find the stuff you're looking for no problem at a decent price. Good luck with it.
I've been lurking around here for some time now and have viewed many of the interesting posts. Now it's my turn to actually post something.
I used to have a Kawasaki Cruiser but have always wanted a Harley. Last September I got rid of the Kawasaki and got a 2008 FLHRC. I'm a working schmuck and couldn't afford a brand new one but I took the time to shop around and I believe I got the most bang for my buck. Nice bike. I had a couple of months before the super cold weather set in so I got a couple of miles under my belt before setting the bike up to hibernate for the winter.
However, I'm not at all happy with HD and their customer service. I don't mean the dealership either but, with whomever supplies them. I ordered the Heritage handlebars because I'm too short for the correct reach. It took about 6 weeks for them to get here and that's only after I called to ask why it was taking so long. The response I got was that they just arrived at the dealership and they would overnight them to me immediately...at no extra cost. But, by then the riding weather was over so the handlebar change would have to wait.
Also, since the bike was used it didn't have a service manual or owners manual so, I ordered both. That was on November 11, 2010. I still haven't received them! What's up with that? The dealer said it's still waiting for them to arrive.
I've called HD and let them know I'm displeased with their customer service and/or parts dept. I also let em know that if things don't change I'm considering on getting rid of the bike and going back to another Japanese bike. I'd much rather have a Harley but, if that's the type of service I can expect...then adios! They weren't very much helpful but the guy I talked with sympathized with me.
The closest dealership is in either Twin Falls, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, and/or Las Vegas, NV so, it's not like I can just hop on down to see them. I have to either order parts over the phone or the internet. I prefer to use genuine parts so dealing with eBay is iffy.
Anyhow...that's my experience with HD.
Is your bike yellow? That might be why you're so depressed.
No. My bike's Vivid Black. bigpercentcountry...I like the analogy of the dog and bike. There's no way I'd ever get rid of my dog. Besides, he eats what I eat (spoiled dog). Maybe I should've mentioned that I was dealing online with Chicago HD. Their prices seem pretty reasonable compared to the local dealer and/or the HD site. I've gotten one or two things from J&P but they don't have the manuals. I should make it clear...I want to keep the FLHRC but it's the service I'm a little peeved about. I'll take the advice given in this thread and look elsewhere. Thanks.
If you ordered from Chicago HD that's the problem. They are always slow. Try a differn't vendor next time, or come here first and ask forum members where to buy from and where to avoid.
