For me it,s my dad has to tell about every motorcycle crash he has seen or read about. People don,t stop riding cars because of car crashes. Dad,s still trying to protect me and I will be 54 this year.
I almost died in a car accident. Guy t-boned me in the driver's door. Broken back, ruptured spleen, collapsed lungs and tore most of the muscles in my lower back. Doctors said everything shut down on me for a 1:28, they did heart massage to get it pumping again. Yet I still drive my car occasionally.
Just remember, Death is certain...Life is not. If your worrying about your death, then your not living anymore.
I've been riding street bikes for going on 16 years now. I still can't wrap my brain around why people feel the need to tell you about someone they used to know that rode and is now dead from a motorcycle crash when they find out you ride.
The conversation usually goes something like:
them: "oh, you ride a motorcycle?"
me: "yes"
them: "Those are dangerous, you're gonna die on that thing! I knew a guy once that rode one and he crashed and now he's dead."
Seriously, WTF? If someone tells you they got a new car or truck you don't immediately go into telling them the safety features their car lacks and how many people you've known that have died in car wrecks. So why do people feel the need to tell you you're gonna die on a motorcycle?
I should say, I'm just venting/ranting about stupid **** that annoys me, not looking for any serious answers or deeper meaning.
ok....I'm done now.
just respond with, "hey I knew that dude too.. He couldn't ride for chit. I am surprised he lasted as long as he did".
Or.
I got that from my Mom of all people. Really Ma? I'm 39 married with 3 kids, all teenagers and she proceeds to tell me "You got another motorcycle? You know you have a family w/kids to take care of... you need to be responsible and think of them! You remember that kid in your highschool that died on a scooter??????" LOL I just stood there in awe. Guess your never too old to get belittled by your parents eh?
(BTW I did total a bike out with a left turning cager when I was 16 which is were all that came from)
This is interesting. I would be curious to find out how much "poster overlap" there is between this thread and the one about body armor and full face helmets. Not saying they're inconsistent, but the attitudes in this thread seem totally different than in the body armor thread.
