I must be weird, cuz I love the look and smell of new leather. Although, I have a 30 year old jacket that I ruined last week and was surprised by how much it bothered me to throw it away. Regardless, I am looking forward to a new jacket. I treat my jackets like my jeans. I have a brand new pair that I wear for "nice" and I have my "beat around" jeans that I wear for everyday (or "nice" when I am feeling anti-social). So, my new jacket will be for "nice" and my current "nice" jacket will become my everyday jacket. *shrug*
That said... do not, under any circumstance, buy him a jacket. I can pretty much guarantee you that he will not like it as much as you do. This advice goes for: boots, belt buckles, vests, sun glasses, hats, or anything "stylish". If you want to get him some accessories, I would suggest things like booze, cigars, wallet, flask, ash tray, dart board, gloves, anything with his favorite sports team logo on it... Did I say booze or cigars?
i just started riding with my bf and i wanted to thank him for teaching me by replacing his ratty old leather jacket. any one ever own a vanson c2 or thunderbird? any help would be appreciated, fellas....
We'll need a picture of you to be able to make a recommendation on what jacket would look good on him standing next to you.
A guy posts an entire thread asking about his bike and you guys off him as a troll...
girl posts about a jacket and you guys are all over her like flies on cow crud. We are pigs.
That being said, welcome to the forum! Glad to have you aboard, stick around.
It is a matter of time before these guys say it, so...
For me personally, IF I needed a new leather jacket I'd prefer to pick it out myself. It's gotta fit right, feel right and look right. If your boy friend has showed you one he likes it would probably be ok to get it for him, otherwise don't chance buying an expensive jacket he may not like.

Jackets don't necessarily fit the same right off the rack.
If you're going to buy him one, I'd suggest giving him a gift certficate and then taking him to a shop where he can try it on for size, feel, and look.
It really is a very personal decision.
And it's thoughtful of you to want to do this for him.
I bet he would rather you buy this for yourself instead.
+1 if it comes in leather.
I'm sure the smile on your face is thanks enough. If you want to do more, be his best riding buddy. You know, the guy who thinks of interesting places to ride, never backs out (even due to weather) and doesn't complain before, during or after the ride (even if you don't go).
