Hard to believe that Craftsman has gone this route. I still have some of my Dads Craftsman tools floating around that I inherited over 40 years ago.

I'm not sure why we continue to let this happen to us. China must throw some very large kickbacks to the Hill. May they all choke on a Chinese ****.

Don't lose your receipt with that warranty statement on it either! I had an explosion proof flashlight (Craftsman) that needed replacing under warranty. They had replaced it before. The asswipe sales manager said unless I had the written expressed warranty on the item it was no longer warrantied. Thier tools are **** now and so is their warranty. I contacted Sears.com and got no response. We no longer shop at Sears or K-Mart.

It's just sad to see all of our manufacturing go away and the quality go with it.

You're tough on ratchets man, that's your fourth replacement - sheesh.
Every time I've ever returned a broken Craftsman tool the clerk went right over to the display rack and got me a new one. I also asked what they did with the broken tools and he said they are thrown in a bin and sold for scrap.
(Maybe they send the scrap to Alabama?)

The chineese are taking over the planet.

Funny thing, related story. My dell laptop died, so I go onto ebay and see "made in china" batteries for about 1/4 the price of the genuine dell battery. I was thinking dell was made in the usa. Then I looked at my dead genuine dell battery... made in china.. Wtf??

At least craftsman still honors their lifetime warranty. I went into sears a couple months ago and exchanged a 25 year old ratchet that was skipping for a brand new shiny one.

Mycrisis has a good point. I have some wrenches from my grandfather who used them building railroad cars. Now I'm over 60, so how old are these tools? If on a budget and looking for a set of tools I would shop the garage or estate sales.

A lot of tools are made in china.
I sometimes buy beat-up sears craftman handtools for $1 or $2 and then go to the store to exchange for brand new.

You may be right about sending the scrap to Alabama. I've taken the ratchets to 2 different sears stores here and they always get some rebuilt junk from behind the counter except the first time. That's when they gave you a repair kit and you had to fix it. I said then what kind of lifetime warranty is this? I guess they got enough complaints they stopped that replacement policy.

When I buy Craftsman tools I make sure to buy the USA made ones.

In a moment of weakness I purchased a tools roll set from WindZone. Talk about crap? One of the hex keys was sized wrong and unusable. The locking pliers stripped. The adjustable wrench is junk. At least all my Craftsman stuff works as it should. All I ask of my tools is that they work and are reliable when I need them. So far I haven't had one fail on me.
