You know this is one time when 2 men riding 2-up is just fine and I think it's great you can add some joy to his life, I'm sure he is depressed. Keep it up man and as time goes on you will look back and smile, because it was time well spent with your dad.
My grandfather is 97 now and losing/lost his memory- he needs to be reminded of who most of his grandkids are at this point. He's actually physically probably in better health now than he was a bit back in his early 90s, when he was having some issues, but I don't think well enough to be on a motorcycle. Which is a bummer because it's a great idea. He used to have a Harley-Davidson in the 1930s in South Dakota.
My dad is 60, I've been thinking of getting another bike so we can go riding. He never would buy one on his own. He used to ride a lot in the 1970s, mostly 2-stroke widow makers, and he had a BSA in the 1980s when I was a kid.
Good for you, life passes way too fast but regrets last forever. My dad is 84 and spends most of his time at our cabin up your way. I wish I had more time to spend with him while he is there.

my wife finally got her 84 year old dad to climb on her trike last year....He was all smiles...He's had a stroke, but can still get around. he kept telling her that he used to ride those things....and still could if he wanted to........never got a chance to take my dad on a Harley since he left us back in 2004 but I remember in 1968 after he bought me my first MC, a 68 Honda CB160, he decided that he wanted to try it...I didn't realize at the time, but he never had a bicycle when he was growing up during the depression. Straddled it, fired her up, pop the clutch and away he went,,,right into a brick building about 30 feet away....him and the Honda were ok, but I think of that now and wish I would have taken him on any of the MC's I had while he was alive.......

My Dad spent the last five years of his life in a nursing home with dementia. Although he would never ride on my bike, he loved to go for a ride in the car with me. As long as he was able to walk, I'd drop by and take him for a drive and an ice cream at least a couple of times a week. Dad enjoyed it, and I cherish the memories of those last years with my Dad.
Geezr, that's a great photo of you and your Dad on the bike.
