Guys...to answer a couple questions posted in this thread...I am a size M. This is what my HD Racer jacket is and it fits pretty good with a t-shirt. I think I will need to get a L jacket.
To the guy who posted Leatherup is schit jacket. Yeah it probably is which is why their price is low. True leather goods that are tanned and guaranteed will ask for more money for sure. After thinking it over I guess I will just buy a quality jacket and "spend once cry once". That means I will probably not get it this year so my riding is over unless I keep going as far as my clothes will take me. My long johns under my dockers or chinos makes my legs warm in this weather. This morning it was 55deg so I was pretty warm but cannot add any layer under my current jacket to ride well into Oct. I occasionally see HD jackets sell on CL in my area so I can keep my eye out for quality leather but my guess is quality leather will go fast.
I absolutely know layers are going to be need to ride in comfort in cool weather (I go out in cold weather and know layers do help). So this is why I am going to have to try on jackets with a thick layer to make sure I get the right size jacket. Since Foxcreek says to get one size up...I am not sure if I should go for XL but don't want the jacket to look overly large and used for riding only.
Guess I need to get to Independence...its about 250 miles from me though so riding bike without dressing for the elements is out!
My fox creek jacket is a size 46. At least in my model, they size jackets by number, not L or XL. Most Xl jackets were just too baggy on my gut and chest, but we're ok in the arms. The fox creek fits beautiful.
They are located about 430 miles from me. I stopped on my way to ride the Tail of the Dragon. I'm real glad I did.
well after looking over FoxCreek website again I think I am going to get the Classic jacket. Wish I had taken a ride down there when it was a little more warmer. My clothes are ill-fit for this long of a ride but bet riding back with the Classic will be warm as hell.
I may just take a ride down there in my truck and buy the jacket. From the looks of it they have jackets in stock right? I mean I can buy one off the rack if they have my size. I think I will need a 46 but who knows. When I head down there I will bring layers of clothing.
Do the Classics have liners or zip out liners?
Thanks for all of the ideas. I think this may yet be my best purchase. I hate to buy something and find out later I need something else and waste money on the original purchase.
I got lucky both times, my thinner HD jacket was half price on their sale rack, plus I had $100 GC from the dealership for winning a poker run so it cost me about $70.
Got a gorgeous thicker, lined HD ***** G jacket with conchos and fringes on Ebay for $125 this spring. I started looking when the weather warmed up figuring somebody would be selling a perfect jacket cheap. Saw the jacket, emailed the seller to ask if they'd do it for a Buy It Now price and she said yes. Got HD chaps on Ebay too for $50 the same way.
I didn't want to spend too much on heavy leather gear because there's only a few days a year that I wear them in Florida. But it does get into the 40s and 50s some nights and early mornings so they are needed.
Stay away from anything made in Pakistan, or China. Cheap crap. I won't wear leathers that aren't made in the US.
If I go down, I want to be wearing Vanson leathers. (Some of Vanson's production has moved to South America, but their better jackets are all US made). These are street jackets made by the same company that makes high end racing leathers. Not very comfortable out of the box, they take at least a full season to break in.

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
First jacket I inherited from my father, second I bought from SEARS. Neither one fits me any more. Current one I bought from the dealer where I bought the bike. Was given 25% off on day of purchase, and considering it was in Dec of last year I needed one to ride the bike home. Layers work as does a heated liner.
