Default Understanding Roadking

I've been looking at a "new" bike. Leaning towards the Roadking or Streetglide. I've taken bith 2014 models out for a test ride. I'm a little torn between the two but did like the 103 engine on both. Budget around $14,000 to $15,000 once my bike sells.

OK I can't figure out pricing in Canada on these bikes. I'm looking for 2003 and newer. Not sure if it's different in US but how can an 03 be near the same price as an 09. I know there's mileage and extras, etc but really. There's an 03 classic and an 05 custom on Kijiji both with an asking price of $18,000
Why wouldn't I buy an 09 at that price?

I'm guessing the 03 is a 100th anniversary bike and the seller probably thinks it's worth more than what it is. Buy the 09 over the 03.

There are merits for both years.

2003 was the year EFi became standard, before that it was an option.

2004 the swing arm bushings changed from rubber to brass, to help combat the weave/wobble that some riders experienced.

2006 was the introduction of stricter emission regulation related components including O2 sensors which led to engines running hot and lean, which is why in

2007 the exhaust was re routed under the frame to try and get some heat away from the rider

2009 (I think) was an all new frame.

Not all updates were introduced for the sake of progress some were to comply with legislation, so a later bike is not necessarily better than an early one.

My knowledge just scratches the surface of this subject, but was enough for me to make an informed decision about what year model was best for me.

Throw in ABS and Linked brakes, and you have even more reason to chose carefully, if you want to keep control of your braking, and not have it dictated for the reason of 'safety'. Call me old fashioned but I like to be able to brake with just the rear if the need arises.

I also prefer a 5 speed box, having owned a 103 6 speed, and now an 88 5 speed, I honestly wouldn't go back. If others share my view, demand for second hand bikes will remain, so prices will not drop that low.

The sellers of the '03 & '05 are smoking crack. Bikes are worth little more than half that.

Converting their Canadian asking price to U.S. dollars puts it at around $16,500. The '03 FLHRCI in good condition would get about $7,400 in trade and retail around $10,000 in excellent condition according to kbb.

The '05 FLHRS has a trade-in value of about $8,200 and retail around $11,100 in excellent condition.

So like dickey said, about half of what they are asking.

I think the only reason the 03-05 prices are high is because that was when the Canadian Dollar tanked. Have a buddy who paid right around $33,000 for a 2003 ultra classic. That was MSRP. Still had to pay PDI, taxes, insurance too.

Sold it 5 years later for $15,000 with 10,000 miles on it.

Some people still think "You won't lose money if you buy a Harley"

Might also be a case of the wife telling them to get rid of the bike. Puts a high price on it then says "Honey, can't sell it, just have to keep it"

My local HD dealer has an 09 Street Glide with 10,000 miles, bunch of add ons including tour pack and 21" custom billet wheel for $12,999.....so like stated above, the bikes you are looking at are way overpriced!

Thanks for replies. Some good history/info there. This just confirms my suspicions on US and Canadian pricing. That and the price my brother told me he paid for his fatboy in California.
Average price here for an 09 streetglide starts at $16,500 & a Roadking $15,000.

Think I'll be patient and look for a fair price in the spring after the Canadian freeze.
