put a quart in and took her for a ride, ill service it all soon she has 46k on her. Forgot to mention that earlier

Why 46k?

I'm honestly can't remember the service interval from 99...

But most are on the 5k markers. 5, 10 , 15...

I think he needed a period in his sentence. I think he means, he'll service the bike soon and it now has 46 k on it.

I agree with the every 5k interval and I think the fork oil was every 20 k?

Back in '99 the fork was once a year or 12,000 miles ( I went more like 2 years and 40,000.) Oil light when on means you find out why before you ride it anymore. Total oil pressure loss will result in the hydraulic lifters collapsing and the motor will start clacking as a result. Cam chain tensioners can fail and take out oil pumps (though mine lasted til 81,000 miles.) You may just have a indicator problem. Is there not an oil pressure gauge on that bike?
