Personally, I'd go for the '07 up hydraulic tensioners, then a SE 254e cam, or 255 cam, then a race tune.
Neither of the cams will fit the 2000 as the inside cam bearings are smaller. I would go with something like a 26G. Stay around 500 lift if engine is stock. There are several others that really need more compression like the S&S 510G or the Andrews 37G. You will need a tuner also.
Nothing affordable about going to gear drives. Nothing really wrong with your tensioners as long as ya treat them like 20k maint items. Swap in Cyco pads as needed.
I have a 2000 King classic as well with 23k. I really don't need any more performance from the motor as it runs strong with just the stage 1. I plan on just the SE cam plate and high volume pump upgrade. I did however think about putting the FULLSAC dual setup on while the pipes where off but I'm concerned that it may cause problems with the M.M. fuel injection. I have heard its a poor system to try to tune even though they say a tuner is not required.
S&S gear drives cams start from a 510 lefts and go up from there, Andrews also has
a lot of gear drive cams.
You may want to up grade to SE new style cam drive set up it's a much better setup.
Harley make some very good cams also.
Call S&S, or several manufacturers, and tell them what your after and they will give you options that are tried and true. These guys know their product so use their experience to make everything work in concert.
When I did my gear drive, I did the fueling oil upgrade (front outer bearing grenaded and killed the OEM cam chest) and went with the Andrews 31g. Lift isn't as much, but with basic tuning, runs strong.
