Default tour pak

Just had a question about tour-paks , are they prone to cracks ? I have noticed that almost all the used ones I see for sale have some sort of damage or cracks around the latch area. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks , Rick

If you do not have one now you can buy an in-expensive one on e-bay for a $150.00 compared to Harley's $800+.
I have one that I put on the removable rack and it looks good and works good for trips.

I noticed the same thing when I decided to get one, I figured why spend a grand for Harley trunk when I don't want it on all the time and will only use it for trips. I am very happy with the one from e-bay. It almost looks like a Harley trunk.

Most of the ones you see on Ebay are from bikes that have been laid down some aren't too bad where I saw one that was literaly pieces of a tourpack. If you don't mind aftermarket stuff the one Jeepster linked is popular, if you want OEM your going to pay. I recently got an OEM tourpack off of ebay and its in pretty good shape some light scratches on it but needs painted to match the bike anyway. If you have the factory cb/intercom the factory speakerpods may not fit on aftermarket packs.

Some things that you have to keep in mind to add to the price if buying on ebay
1) lockset. Most do not include it and will most likely have to order it form HD if you want it keyed to match. About $35
2) Mounts. Do you want detachable or permanent? Detachable $150 plus mounting points and $99 ant relocation kit Fixed $15 plus shipping on ebay and misc spacers/bolts if not included.
3) Speakers. For stock speaker pods $400 aftermarket available for 200 plus speakers but no switches on them for aux controls
4) Luggage rack. $150
5) Backrest. $190-$210 depending on style

Most of the ones you see on ebay are already drilled for these things so its either put them on or fill the holes.

Hope this helped

I did the same thing as Jeepster. My wife wanted a tour pak(with backrest) but only goes with me a couple of times. I started out looking at HD paks but found them to be cost prohibitive. I looked at the pics of these on ebay. They looked pretty good (it won't be confused for HD) and the price was right. I paid 110.00 for mine in vivid black. The person (company?) selling was very responsive and it went easily. They mount onto any Flat luggage rack and come with the mounting brackets, bolts and 2 keys. I haven't looked at an HD tourpak to determine if these are any thinner but it seems solid enough. The bottom line for me was my wife likes it and it seems like it's made well enough. Sorry to be so long-winded, I likes to hear my own voice (and see the words)

I've had numerous tourpaks which I have overloaded and abused without so much as one crack. I've got a removable chopped tourpak that I use on my Roadglide and it works great.
