Spare engine in Tour-Pak...seriously, get the foldable Torx and Allen kits, a medium adjustable, both types of screw drivers in medium size, plugs, large-zip ties(8 should do),duct-tape, and the stock tool kit, then you should be ok. I mean you can't take the whole garage with you so just the basics. In the old days I would never go to Laconia without half a spare engine for cripes-sake(my Ironhead days), those days are gone when you need all that..

i went to wal mart and bought a leather shaving kit bag.
Added the following tools
[ul][*]completed set of combo wrenches 1/4 - 3/4 craftsman[*]6 in 1 screwdriver[*]4 in 1 trox screwdriver[*]tire plug kit (plugs, and insert tool)[*]electrical tape[*]fuses[*]flashlight[*]nylon ties[*]pocket knife[*]allen wrench set[*]a couple shop rags
[/ul]i might have 50$ in it all, most was extra tools that i had around the shop. You can get aftermarket tools (non-craftsman, snap-on etc) from Lowes (kobalt) for a few $$$ less, and they have a lifetime warranty as well.

Pre made tool kits are a ripoff. Look at your bike, decide what you need and go to the pawn shop and get name brand tools for about .30 on the dollar, make a bag to put them in and you are good to go.

Here is a pretty good idea:

3/8" to 9/16" end wrenches plus a 10mm for the battery terminals
3/8 to 3/4" sockets in 3/8' drivewith a ratchet and 6" extension plus a 10mm 12 point
Small vise grips, small channel locks
4 and 6' crescent
HD 8 in one screwdriver(it has all the torx you will need as well as screwdriver bits)
Allen wrenches for your model including a 3/8' for the trans fill, and a 5/16"(I think) for aircleaner cover.
Flashlight
Fluid funnel
Plastic wire ties

You might find a few other little things, but this will do most of what you want to do on the road.

Regards,

Bill

Another vote for the Windzone. Love mine.

Windzone makes GREAT toolkits at a reasonable price. Get them cheap on ebay:

Personally I would get the allen and torx heads for the 3/8 drive. I tried to use the regular allens and couldn't get anything to loosen.

I don't know about cruise ships, but the ferries I've used don't have good tie downs for bikes - they're about four inches wide, filthy, and difficult to use for securing a motorcycle.

I bring Soft Ties and my own ratchet tie down straps. I assume theyrequire theowners to secure their bikes for liability reasons. Leave it in first gear and cinch the front brake lever to minimize the chance of the bike moving.

It might be worth a call to the cruise line to find out what the protocol is - better to know beforehand rather than being surprised as they're casting off.
You may want to consider not leaving the bike in gear during "tie down" transport. If things were to loosen up a bit...the rocking will put stress on the shift linkage and it's not pretty.

Ask me how I know.

Also...Remember to have the kick stand up!

Its hard to tell which tools youll need without knowing you abilty to perform work.I agree that kits are junk.double end wrenches,4 way screw driver, small ratchet and socket kit cpl adjustables(fit metric and standard) torque bits, allens and wiring tools will get you threw with some imagination.A good manaul is always good.A rag or 2 sealer and tape.We travle across country once a year and this usualy works for most problems
