Just got my first HD this last sunday, an 84 FLHT, dropped it off at a friends for a carb rebuild, its a bendix (awaits bashing........)
the bike is very stock including air cleaner, mufflers, did I mention very stock?
15,000 miles
anyhow I picked it up after work today, the carb rebuild turned into oil change and ignition and the ride home turned into some cutting out and stalling,
I searched the forums, found possible a battery cable ground issue and I havent told my friend about it yet,
figured this might be a frequent stop so decided to jump right in with an episode of "whats wrong now?" on an old HD
'84... brings back memories. Think I had a Honda 650 Nighthawk then. My buddies had harley sportsters. One evening another friend said " hey lets trade!" Sooo.. for the ride home I got to ride a '82 sturgis? all black and had red pin stripes on the rims. friggin loved it. When we got home I realized he had no plates on it... LOL. Do post some pics here soon as you can, would love to see it. Oh... welcome from NY.

That bike has been doing a lot of sitting in the garage for thirty years. If the carb rebuild is good, it could be a few things. Ground cable is a good start....but if not that check the coil to make sure it's still good. Maybe ignition? Maybe a lot of sediment in the tank....fuel filter...
Good luck, I put 15,000 miles on my last bike in just a year riding only every other weekend. I have my daughter every other week so I only get to ride every other. When you get her running good put some miles on that baby!
