I just installed a set of Progressive 412's. which way do I adjust them to make them stiffer or softer? clockwise for what? counter clockwise for what? dumb huh?
Usually it is clockwise for more preload. It should be easy to see which way adds preload and shortens the spring. They also usually do not let you turn it the other way. It's a ramp where you have to keep adding more preload until you get back to the lowest preload setting and start over.

Yep
I have the 944s and the nice thing is that they are very easy to turn.

So I can understand this(I have no idea why this so hard for me) the longer the spring the smoother the ride but your better off not riding with a lot of weight? the shorter the spring the rougher the ride and you can put extra weight(2 up, gear in bags, etc.)? I am having a really hard time figuring this out and I consider myself fairly smart(go figure huh?)
I like dumb questions. Why is a chicken the only animal we eat before it is born and after its dead?
it isn't. Goose, quail and probably others are eaten just not as common as the chicken. An egg from a goose makes a good sized omelet. Not sure about fish eggs but we eat them too.
Post a review, curious how you like them. I tried them on my RG, but the standard spring was too soft for two up riding. I am trying the HD this time around.
If you can npt tell after riding...whether the shocks are softer or stiffer, why bother?
On previos bikes, after changing the windshield, I would ask my girlfriend if the windshield was better, she would reply "I did not know you changed the shield......" You may have the same shocks?

I have the 12" with the heavy duty spring. I went riding today and had them at the second softest setting(oh boy)I felt a tremendous improvement over the stock crap shocks. I didn't bottom out one time(I'm 6'3" 240lbs) I haven't ridden with my wife with the new shocks but will set them one more notch "stiffer" when I do................. lol
